The Heart and Soul of it

They say that a son has your heart and a daughter your soul. As days go by, I understand more and more the validity of that very statement. Cale grabbed my heart the second he was born and I am so in love with him with a kind of love I have never had the privilege of feeling up until this point. I guess it has something to do with carrying, growing and then having a “mini” part of the man that you married. Now, to clarify, I love both my children with my whole heart and with everything that I have. I love them equally. But, I love them differently.

Ella is part of me. Don’t get me wrong, she looks a lot like Matt, at times she acts a lot like Matt, but there are parts of us that are one and the same. There is a quote that goes, “A son is a son till he takes a wife, but a daughter’s a daughter all of her life.” She is not now, but will always be mine in that way. She won’t replace me when she makes best friends or when she gets married - that little part of her that is me and vice versa that part of me that is her will always be. She is my daughter, my love and one day my friend-forever. She is a part of my soul.

With that said, let me introduce to you my heart- This little booger is the happiest, most content little piece of heaven. Matt and I have discussed on several occasions how much easier the second child is. Now, whether it’s just because he is easier or we are just better at it has yet to be determined. Breakfast is his FAVORITE time of day. He squeals and kicks through the entire meal, so much so that it is seemingly difficult to get the spoon in his mouth without displacing cereal EVERYWHERE! I LOVE watching him eat and the noises he makes while doing so. He opens his mouth wide open when he’s ready for his next bite-I giggle through the meal! The boy likes to sleep. He’s not a napper, he likes to sleep. At 8 or 9 ish he is ready for bed. Once he is in the bed we don’t hear from him until 9 ish the next morning…see what I mean. Yay, for the second baby!! He loves a bath and now loves to hang out in his birthday suit-this wasn’t always the case. He grins at everyone we meet. And, he still gives me wide-open mouth kisses, which I could sit around and take all day. At his last check up (4 months) he was still in the 90th percentile for height and weight. He is my big “little” boy!

And…part of my soul- This one is sassy made over. She has an opinion all her own for EVERYTHING and she is the epitome of strong-willed and s-t-u-b-b-o-r-n! She brings out love in me that is sent from above and frustration in me that I didn’t know I had. Well, I take that back, sometimes I see that same frustration with Matt. So, I guess it’s true what they say that the people you love the most can also make you the most aggravated! Sometimes I feel as if she and I fight like sisters and it’s VERY easy sometimes to forget who actually is the boss. She is my biggest accountability and she doesn’t even know it. I can see myself in her so often and those are usually the moments when I call my own mother to apologize. She uses words like “supposedly”, “regardless” and “actually,” which all together make me forget that she is still only three. Her imagination is unreal and sometimes I might actually wonder when the line of “normal imagination” is crossed? She can actually take on a completely different persona (hence the wigs, I guess.) If she is pretending to be Ariel, you have to call her Ariel and she won’t respond to Ella or anything else. She tells me she loves me with “the rest of her heart” and “I very love you!” I VERY love her too-with ALL of my heart and soul!

Christmas and New Year's

We spent Christmas this year in Huntsville at my parent's house. We had a really great time and this year, by far, was the most fun with Ella. She was extremely excited! She couldn't go to sleep on Christmas Eve because of the excitement, but when Zach showed her on the computer how close Santa was it didn't take her long. I have an embarassingly small amount of pictures from the trip...I guess we were just to busy visiting and having fun that I forgot, but I do have a few.

Uncle John and Cale. He was pretty impressed with himself that he got Cale to sleep. I really enjoyed seeing the two of them together, they are a lot alike and Cale reminds of John a lot of the time.
Honey and Ella baked cookies for Santa...
This is the ONLY picture I have from Christmas morning-SAD, I know! I don't know what I was doing...obviously NOT taking pictures!Christmas night Honey and Ella baked a cake for Jesus' birthday and we all sang "Happy Birthday" to Him.
Ella, Boppa and Sassy, who was sitting there only by force!

And, I can't forget to mention the night after Christmas Matt and I went bowling with John, his girlfriend, Zach and one of his friends. I don't have pictures of that either, but we had a blast! And, I am proud to say that I lost BOTH games even after everyone else had stopped trying! Oh, well! Never said bowling was a forte of mine, but it was fun just the same! I also got to fit in some shopping with my mom, which is always nice!

Matt's family came in town for New Year's. It was nice to visit with them as well.

Ella, MeMe and PaPa in the playhouse that Santa brought her. We're not sure what Santa was thinking when he bought this other than he must have just gotten excited while at Toys R Us and he knew how much she would love it. We don't exactly have room for a house inside our house, but I guess Santa figured we could just worry about that later. Besides, he was right...she LOVES it!!
Ariel outside her house...Belle outside her house...my mom bought Ella the Belle and Sleeping Beauty princess wigs. It's SO much more fun dressing up with the hair to go with it!
MeMe and her grandkids.

Happy 2010!!!

Our visit with Papa John...

Matt took the day off the Thursday before Christmas and we took the kids to Jacksonville to spend the day with Papa. It was a really great day and Ella and Cale got to spend some quality time with their great-grandfather. Ella was literally stuck to his hip the entire day. She didn't leave his side at all, wanted to sit with him at lunch and cried when we had to leave him...she has NEVER acted that way before, but this trip she was especially attached. It's always hard to go to "Nana and Papa's" house without her being there, I don't know that it will ever get any easier, but I will say that it was nice to go there and spend that time with Papa. Of course, Ella had to take her Ariel costume, since Papa hadn't seen it. She also tried it on for Mammaw Hazel at the Assisted Living Home for all to see!

Five years and counting...

Five years ago, today I said, "I do," to the man of my dreams. Happy Anniversary, Matt! Thank you for five wonderful years and two beautiful children. The Lord has made such a sweet and thoughtful husband and father out of you. It is my blessing and honor to walk by you as your wife! I love you with my WHOLE heart!

A Thanksgiving we wont forget

This is my grandmother. Today she went to live with the Lord. It was sudden and very unexpected...she was young and healthy so needless to say the shock is overwhelming. There is so much that I would like to say, but am afraid I simply can't muster up the courage to do it now. Though I am happy and can rest in the fact she is in a much better place I am sad for the rest of us that will miss her so much. I will say that if I had known that the last time I saw her would be THE LAST TIME I don't know what I would have done differently except for maybe hug her a little harder and a little longer! It most definitely was not the Thanksgiving we were hoping for, though we still have so much to be thankful for and so many blessings and praises to the Lord. That is Papa John sitting beside her...I fear he aches the most. He kissed her on the lips today after she was gone and said,"What am I going to do without you?" So, Lord I pray right now that you hold him in your arms tonight and for the days to come, give him the strength and comfort he needs to get through this and take care of his health, heart and spirit during this time. Please equip the rest of us to love and care for him and each other and give us the necessary words, actions and encouragement to give him what he needs as well. And, Lord, thank you for the time we had with Nana and for what she meant to us.

Our little brother...

Cale at 9 wks.

and at 10 wks.

What a WONDERFUL little brother the Lord has given us. Cale is such a joy! He coos and grins constantly. He is interactive and the boy can EAT! We started giving him rice cereal this week...I couldn't believe it. But, he was ready and he does great with a spoon, though he seems just too young. Matt keeps telling me to "cut the cord" that "he's a boy", BUT I refuse at 11 weeks to cut any proverbial cord!! I can't believe how quickly he is growing, I'm just trying to soak it all in...before I know it I'll be watching him walk off into the woods with his daddy and my "cuddle time" will be something of the past. I won't think about that right now, I'm just enjoying the pure sweetness of him touching my face and giving me wide-open mouth kisses...it makes me weak in the knees!!

The Halloween that wasn't...

Well, needless to say we missed Halloween this year. Ella slept right through it! Little bitty was just so exhausted from the weekend activities and her party that she knocked out from 6 -9:30 pm. But, missing the actual festivities didn't stop us from playing dress-up the other day. So, here is what would have been...

Introducing Ariel and Prince Eric

"Kiss the girl" or boy in this case!
